Al Salam Alaykom wa Rahmat Allah wa Barakatu

The Letterkenny Islamic Association wishes to congratulate all Muslims in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and all around the world on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha which is confirmed for Tuesday the 20th of July insha Allah.

May Allah accept from us and from you.

Sadly, we are unable to hold Eid prayers with as many people as we can fit in the community centre as we have done in the past. Due to social distancing, numbers for Eid prayers will be limited. We shall be holding multiple sessions and registration will be performed via our WhatsApp group. If you are not in our WhatsApp group and would like to be added, please get in touch.

When performing Eid prayers, don’t forget the takbeer!

The words of the takbeer are as follows:

الله أكبر الله أكبر الله أكبر، لا إله إلا الله

الله أكبر الله أكبر، و لله الحمد

God is The Greatest, God is The Greatest.  There is no deity except for God.

God is The Greatest, God is The Greatest.  All praise is to God.

Eid Mubarak – Thursday the 13th insha Allah

Bismillah

Al Salam Alaykom wa Rahmat Allah wa barakatu

The Letterkenny Islamic Association wishes all Muslims in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and all around the world a blessed Eid Mubarak on the occasion of Eid ul-Fitr which is confirmed for Thursday the 13th of May insha Allah.

May God accept all our deeds during the holy month of Ramadan from us and from you.

We’ve had another different Ramadan with the Covid-19 pandemic. At this time, we remember those who have lost loved ones to this virus. We pray for all those who are working on the front lines in the health service, in the shops and all those who are helping to keep our services and our lives going. We pray that God gives them strength and patience to endure. And we pray that God brings about the end of this pandemic soon. Ameen.

We remind all that Zakat ul-Fitr/Fitrana needs to be paid before Eid prayer is offered. You may like to donate online to any number of Islamic charity websites. Three such sites are One Ummah, Islamic Relief and Iqra International. Or, if you still can, you could send the money to your other home country. Zakat ul-Fitr is €7 per person. You may also like to donate your Zakat ul-fitr via our bank account and we will forward it on to a charity for you. Details of our account is on our donations page.

There will be Eid prayer on Thursday in the community centre insha Allah. However, as the prayer will be socially distanced and there will be limited numbers, folks will need to register for their prayer session. Registration will open tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm insha Allah and places will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will be via Eventbrite.

Even though this will be a different Eid to the kind we’re used to, let’s make sure to make it a fun and enjoyable one for our children. And let’s remember to have some fun too.

Jazakum Allah khairan.

Eid Mubarak to one and all.

Ramadan Mubarak – from Tuesday insha Allah

Bismillah

The Letterkenny Islamic Association would like to wish all Muslim brothers and sisters in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal and all around the world a blessed month of Ramadan which will, God willing, start on Tuesday the 13th of April. May God accept the best deeds from us and from you. Ameen.

Please find below the Ramadan timetables for both Letterkenny and Donegal town. Please use the timetable for the location closest to you.

Don’t forget there’s also an app for both Android and iPhone with daily prayer times. You can specify your location and it will display the prayer times for you.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ie.farend.prayer
Apple iOS: https://apps.apple.com/ie/app/prayer-timetable/id1505376171

Unfortunately, Covid is still here and this means that, like last year, our experience of Ramadan is different to what we’re used to.

As always, we pray to God that He makes this disease pass and helps all of mankind to get through this and with the least suffering. And we pray for all the front line medical staff helping all those who are sick and all those people who are keeping our essential services running. Ameen.

We urge everyone to please follow the guidelines as laid out by the HSE and the government regarding social distancing over the holy month of Ramadan. Even though we can’t pray taraweeh in congregation, we can still pray with our families thank God. And we can have iftar with our families. But we urge people not to go to each other’s houses and to keep with social distancing God willing.

Ramadan is the month of Quran, worship and charity giving. We can still do these things thank God.

If it becomes possible to pray taraweeh later in the month, we shall post an update.

We wish you all a blessed and merciful Ramadan insha Allah.

We shall be in touch again regarding Friday prayers as soon as is possible God willing.

Eid Mubarak – Sunday the 24th insha Allah

May God accept all our deeds during the holy month of Ramadan from us and from you.

Sadly, we will not be able to have Eid prayer together like we normally do and this is something we all shall miss. Just like we missed the taraweeh prayers during Ramadan. But alhamdulilah, we can still pray the Eid prayer and celebrate Eid with our families and even with 1 or 2 of our friends outside as long as we keep to social distancing.

We remember those who have lost loved ones due to the pandemic and pray to God for them and their families as well as pray for those who are working on the front lines to help our health service and keep our essential services running.

This might be a different Eid and while we can’t celebrate like we normally can, please remember to have fun and make sure that our children especially feel the fun of Eid. They need it. And we do too.

Jazakum Allah khairan.

Eid Mubarak to one and all.
